Interior Painting and Decorating

Interior painting and decorating ideas is generally focused more on finishes, such as wallpaper, paint, window coverings, and furnishings whereas interior design tends to be more integrated with the architecture, and in addition to the above areas, might also be involved in cabinet making, room layout, window placement, appliance selection, tile and floor selection, and so on.

Interior painting and decorating ideas used by professionals, on the other hand, specialise in designing different spaces by adorning walls and choosing the right furniture and accessories for a space. With their greater breadth of experience and continually evolving knowledge of trends and designers, they can make numerous recommendations for any unique case.

With regards to interior design some good interior decorating ideas would involve window blinds, lamps, area rugs, comforters, wall mirrors, curtain rods, wall decor and more. Window coverings again are best kept neutral especially if you are investing in good quality fabrics and fittings.

If you want to be adventurous with bold colours and patterns, perhaps use a co-ordinated fabric for bedding and cushions, even furniture, such as a lounge suite, which can look fantastic in bold colours or patterns and if trends change or you tire of the look, it is relatively inexpensive to have furniture reupholstered (the fabric gets worn after a few years in a lot of cases anyway). Window blinds also adorn one of the most important assets that a room has a view to the outdoors.

Wood blinds are an attractive way to decorate a window. Despite these positives, there are some downsides to wood blinds. Additionally wooden hand-painted furniture, coir mats, earthen pottery, brassware, handicrafts and bright primary colors for furnishings will look right with wooden blinds for good interior decorating ideas. There are a number of interior decorating ideas that can be explored when using some creative imagination and some guidance.

Finally tiles can increase the value of any home and can be an excellent interior decorating idea. Ceramic tiles, mosaic tile, floor tile all add an extra quality to your home. Always make sure you tile from the centre outwards towards the walls, use spacers and wipe away excess grout or sealant before it hardens.

Home Decorating Books

Knowledge is power so they say and it also can save you lots of money. For instance knowing a few tricks and tips about home decorating by just reading a book can save you money. The work is not difficult and if you are on a budget a book on decorating can save you the money on calling a professional decorator. However, if your house is large with many rooms and corridors a team of decorators may be required.

I would look at home improvement books as well on such subjects as plumbing. Many simple plumbing jobs can cost you a small fortune if you call a plumber out every time. The classic case is the onset of winter and the heating system has not been used for a while. All it takes is to simply bleed the system and revove any air blocks. A 10 minute job like that can save you £150.00!! This is precisely why consumers would be willing to shell out money for a credible book, the one they can consider the best home improvement book.

Some great books that are well worth buying now to save money are home energy saving books. According to the Energy Star website, the average home spends £1500 a year on energy costs per year. Whenever you do anything that reduces the amount of energy you use, you can not only cut your electricity bill but you’ll even be doing your part to help the environment. For example, adding insulation and installing a programmable thermostat could cut heating and cooling costs by as much as 50% in under-insulated, older homes. These investments will pay back even more in the future as energy costs continue to rise.

Home decorating books are worth there weight in gold as well. You may think you can paint by just getting a brush and some paint and off you go. You could’nt be further from the truth! Firstly I have learn’t that you must paint the walls first, and the woodwork last!Always start by a window or light source, and paint in bands away from and parallel to it. For kitchens paint the ceilings white to reflect light which makes your kitchen look bigger. If your kitchen is already big and you want to make it cozier, consider a warm neutral earth tone like taupe or sand.

Traditional Decorating

Traditional decorating to a high standard throughout gives a house or an apartment a warm and cosy feel.  Traditional decorating incorporates materials appropriate to the time, along with some specialist finishing styles and crafts, uncommon to the modern decorator. These tried and tested materials not only compliment the buildings fabric, thus helping the building to breathe, and due to their composite natural ingredients have vast environmental,  advantages.

Picking traditional styles of decorating that are popular in the consumer’s mind are always undergoing constant change. Most people want their home to be totally up to date when it comes to the latest in fashion ideas. It is fun and interesting to know about the latest decorating styles and gives you lots of things to talk about when discussing your home. Once you have decided to redocorate one of your rooms, be it the living room, kitchen, bedroom or another room you will want to review the decorating choices available today.

Some of the easiest and quickest ways of making a traditional decorating idea which will make your home appealing is to add a small area rug, some new solid colored pillows or a blanket throw and everything can be brought up to date. Add shelves in areas where you think may be practical. Corner shelves can be placed and take advantage of frequently wasted space.

Collect postcards from places you’ve been and places your friends have been and turn them into unique posters. If you’re crafty, create a postcard mobile collection brought to you by Home Decorating Made Easy.  This is the first of its kind for the collection of interactive guidebooks and is guaranteed to help you decorate any room in your home faster and easier than ever before. Create a beautiful living room that matches your families lifestyle without spending lots of money.

Queen Anne and Chippendale-style wing chairs can be found in updated versions that recline. Add dado-rails, picture-rails, tongue-and groove, wood-panelling, or panels of wallpaper, framed by decorative moulding. Such detailing will really add period-charm to your home.

The first style you should consider is the traditional style because it is one style that never goes out of vogue. Traditional is based on the styles of royal decorating early American decorating and other related “formal” styles. You would use traditional in the upholstery. window treatments and the accents throughout the room. This is a style that is not cheap to duplicate and traditional furniture is usually the most expensive type of furniture.

Shabby Chic Decorating is where there are those who believe this is the best decorating method. Light colored walls and furnishings. the look of antique china and warm. comfortable pieces are the hallmark of the shabby chic style.  Contemporary or Modern decorating is a  style marked by bold. bright colors. furniture that serves function before form. and straight. architectural lines in both the furnishings and the art.

Art Deco is related to modern but usually with lines that flow smoothly instead of having a a stark. angular quality. Rustic decoration is based on the feel of a cabin or a southwestern motif. rustic is warm and inviting. Woods are used liberally. and the furniture is laid back and comfortable above all. with pillows and throws strewn about.  French Country is one of the most popular decorating styles. French Country is known for bright colors and a light-hearted. almost fanciful spirit to it. The woods are usually of rich tones such as cherry or other fruitwoods and bright colorful art is seen throughout.

You are sure to be able to find a style among these that will suit your home and the selection of decorating items in each of these styles will make it easy to convert your home completely.  Finally have a look at interior decorating stores with merchandise that fits a vintage decorating style are usually antique stores, thrift stores, and estate sales. The best part about all these buying situations is that the price is never set in stone, and buyers can bargain with sellers to get the best deal.

Town House Decorating

Town house decorating requires some basic skills to get started but nothing to difficult for the average home owner.   Most old town houses will be covered in wall paper and/or artex.  The first job would be to strip the old paper and any other wall coverings as efficiently as possible.  Note that stripping wall paper cannot be done in a rush as if it is not wet enough it will be very difficult to remove.

One of the best devices around and can get the job of wall paper stripping quickly is the steam stripper and I would definitely invest in this device to save time, energy and sore arms!  However, if you are using the steamer or any other device it is a good idea to go over the wall paper surface with a scoring tool which will allow the steam or water to penetrate the surface.  Also soak the wall first with a handheld spray or sponge.

Some useful tips for starting wall paper stripping is to have plenty of bags around to clear the mushy paper as you go round otherwise you will find it sticking to the feet and the paper soon piles up.  Dust sheets are required on the floor to protect the carpet from the water and soggy/ mush wall paper.  If using a steam stripper I would have some marigolds (rubber gloves) for protection.  For safety make sure all electrical sockets, switches are covered with plastic and switch off the electric box when steaming near electrical points.

So you have the wall stripped bare. Before painting have a look for any cracks, dents, holes or gouges in the walls and replace and fill in with interior decorating filler.  For awkward places such as such as cracks along wall and ceiling joints, and between walls and woodwork can be sealed with a mastic which you apply with a mastic gun.  For deep cavities around pipes that go through a wall a foam filler is required.  If you are painting any doors use a wood filler to fill in any holes and sand down smoothely.  The doors will have to be sanded down before painting which is known as to key the door.

Finally, before painting you may need a preparatory coating to make sure the walls are stable and sealed.  For areas such as bathrooms, kitchens it would be a good idea to apply a fungicide which kills off any mould built up in the condensed atmosphere.  For plaster walls, new wood or metal a primer paint can be used to seal the surface.

The preparation phase for any town house decorating is the most important phase of the whole process.  Get this wrong and you could be regretting it later with cracks appearing and worst of all peeling paint.

Bathroom Decorating Ideas

Bathroom decorating ideas can be a great project to start with when starting home improvements. First off, you must choose a particular style or use a bathroom decorating DIY book for some ideas.   Bathroom decorating themes can run the gamut from a mountain retreat to a beach bungalow, and everything in between. Bathroom decorating ideas would depend on the people themselves and there are a lot of things that individuals can do to bathrooms such as placing bathroom photos, bathroom wall cabinets or even bathroom linen cabinets.

Remodeling a bathroom can be one of the most expensive interior decorating projects in your home, but you can give your bathroom a fresh, new look without spending a lot.  Before you begin, clean your bathroom from top to bottom. However, remodeling a bathroom is a challenge and is action-oriented requiring extra energy and stamina. You will be working hard on the ceiling, wall and floor as well as addng and removing the fixtures.  Remodeling or redecorating a bathroom can pay off right from the start doing these straight forward bathroom decorating ideas. The hard work will pay off in the end as your bathroom will be more comfortable and you’ll add value to the property.

Bathrooms are about cleanliness, sure, but, from a decorating point of view, they’re about creating mood. You may think of white as being sterile, but color is going to be one of the key components in creating a relaxing atmosphere. Bathrooms decorating ideas suggests turning your master bath into a spa with the addition of piles of white towels, scented candles and a fresh coat of paint.  Bathrooms are often decorated with a water theme, such as lighthouses or beach designs. This is a natural step for most interior designers as it makes perfect sense.

Painting the walls a complimentary color (not the same color) to the shower curtain gives you the next springboard to continue your decorating ideas. Paint the bathroom in a color that will go with anything. You can accent the bathroom, but when times change, and you want the theme to change, your bathroom walls will be ready for the old theme to move out and the new one to move in.

When purchasing bathroom items you will have to think about the colour as coloured tubs and sinks require high maintenance, because soap scum and dandruff looks terrible in a coloured surface. On other hand, white is fresh and pure, and visually expands space as well. Color is the quickest, cheapest and easiest ways to change any bathroom. Unusual colors on a bathroom wall, like melon, chocolate brown or peach, will add drama.

Bathroom Remodeling projects are listed among the best ways to increase a home’s value. It may cost as much as £7,000 to do such a project, but you can usually increase the value of the home by at least that much.
